Throwing a party or keeping an event in Jamaica can be profitable and fun.  Choosing the right sound, location and theme is easy; considering they are within your budget and schedule. But once you have all that lined up, the work has only just begun. You now have to promote your event locally, and in some cases island wide in order to sell tickets, fill seats or find sponsors. Everybody loves to ‘do road’ but now a days you have to promote events online to ensure a strong crowd.

Here are a few tips to promote your event online:

  1. Create an event page on Facebook. If you have already done this, skip to the next tip. Although many believe fb event pages are due for an upgrade, they are an effective way of communicating with people who are interested in your event.
  2. List your Event on Claja.com. Add your flyers, video and as much details as necessary including a link to your Facebook event page. Claja listings are free and your event will be shared automatically with thousands in Jamaica via Facebook, Twitter, RSS and email. Watch the short video below to learn more about promoting your event on Claja.
  3. Share your event on the social networks you use. Claja provides a quick way for you to share your events using a ‘share link’ on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. This link will show your flyer, date and information when posted in your updates. After posting your event, copy and share the this link with your friends. 4. Tell existing fans and followers on your mailing list about the event. Send them an email update with information, share links and ask them to spread the word. If you don’t have a mailing list,  consider making one. Many mailing list providers now include an option to share your email blast via social media.
  5. Remember to Tweet regularly and remind followers about your event. Same rules apply for Google+.
  6. Consider doing a ticket or other giveaway via Twitter (or Facebook) to attract new followers and build interest. In some cases you may want to create a Facebook page or group; this is a great way of retaining a party-series type crowd.
  7. Create a short news release to ping on Blackberry phones in Jamaica. If you don’t have a Blackberry, find friends who do and get them to ping your event as often as possible.
  8. Promote your event on Jamaican websites. Contact webmasters at Jamaican event and entertainment sites like Dakaration.com, thegreatestnews.com and blogs like WahYahSeh.
