So, you’ve been searching endlessly online for that perfect cellphone to replace your old one and finally you found it on
Claja Jamaica Classifieds. It sweet’ you, when you notice it’s in your budget and only a few km away… but what next? There are a few things you should know before buying that pink Blackberry you found on your
search for used cellphones in Jamaica.
Tips for buying used cellphones online in Jamaica:
- Re-read the listing before contacting the seller. When you contact them, check if what they mentioned in the listing is really true. Ask details about phone condition; if the phone has scratches, a broken display or anything. Find out who used the phone, for business or personal use. Getting this information first may save you time later.
- Find out what comes with the phone. Battery, charger, memory card, data cables and sometimes headphones are offered and should also be checked for condition. Make sure you can find cell phone accessories or other items needed that are not provided by the seller before purchasing the phone.
- Is the phone locked or unlocked? Many phones are originally purchased locked, due to branding by the phone company. Find out if the phone is locked, if you plan on using it with a different operator (ie. switching from LIME to Digicel). Most mobile phones can be unlocked by local services in Jamaica.
- Do not pay for the phone before reviewing it in person. Get someone to follow you and meet with the seller. Meet in public, carry a cellphone and never enter vehicles or enclosed areas. Check the phone for any damages not mentioned before purchase.
- Haggle, bawl’ down and negotiate a price that’s right for you. Most people who sell online in Jamaica expect this and are willing to reduce the price.
